Monterey County Rape Crisis Center

Mission

The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to provide ongoing advocacy, support and healing for all victims and survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse; and to prevent sexual violence in our community through education.

The Big Idea

MCRCC believes prevention is possible. Prevention work is a foundational piece of our center and a key part of our mission to end sexual violence. Our prevention work is research-informed, evidence-based, and culturally relevant to best serve the communities in Monterey County. MCRCC uses a public health approach to our work, and focuses on promoting protective factors that decrease the risk of sexual violence.

MCRCC provides age appropriate prevention education to students from kindergarten through high school and college. The Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) brings safety information to students at least three times throughout their K-6th grade education. Students learn about safe touch, trusted adults, and boundary setting. In high school, students can elect to be a part of prevention clubs, called Our Voice, to address harmful behaviors and see themselves as leaders in making their campus and community safer.

"My favorite part of the Our Voice Club was coming together to fight for what’s right and spread awareness about sexual violence on campus."
